Working Out and still Not Losing Weight? 2 Reasons how food can help.

In March we started by looking at 3 reasons why you struggle to lose weight. We covered “how often to train” followed by “ditching the scale” in Apr. This month we look at food as fuel instead of something to feed your emotions or occupy your time.

Food as Fuel

Before I found my “Feel Great Weight”, I tried all kinds of quick fixes.   Initially I lost the weight but my health suffered as I was tired, not sleeping well and generally looking pale and ill.  The culprit? Forcing myself to eat foods that just weren’t right for my body.

Things turned around for me when I realised that food was my body’s fuel.  I had to start thinking of the reason I was eating and why.  Once I realised this and adjusted my lifestyle, I reached my goal weight while eating food I love.

Here’s how I moved beyond diet foods and found the right fuel for my lifestyle.

Food for Fuel

1.    You’re eating wrong foods

If you’re not losing weight, the first place you should be looking is the kitchen. Some people focus all their energy on burning off calories and they don’t take the time to consider what they’re putting in as fuel.

Things to consider:

  1. The foods you should eat depend heavily on your body type, metabolism, and other factors.

  2. A good rule of thumb is to stick to all natural, whole foods.

2.    You’re eating too much

If you’ve already cleaned up your diet big time and you’re still not losing weight, it may be that you’re simply eating too much. In order to shed pounds your body needs to run a calorie deficit, meaning you need to burn more than you consume. That being said, you shouldn’t have to deprive yourself either. Life is about balance. Don’t become consumed with counting calories or weighing yourself every day. Make time to enjoy preparing healthy meals, and eat smaller meals more often rather than depriving yourself.  This is the magic ingredient to your relationship with food!
